What this is
Undertold makes interactive visual stories about how charities and nonprofit organizations actually work — the machines, the mechanisms, the math. Instead of telling you an organization matters, we put you at the controls and let you judge for yourself.
How we make money
This site is supported by display advertising. That is our only revenue source. We do not accept payment, sponsorship, or compensation of any kind from the organizations we cover, and being featured cannot be bought.
Donation links go straight to the charity. Every link points at the organization's own website, 100% of what you give reaches them, and we receive nothing — no commission, no referral fee, no data about donors.
Editorial standards
Every statistic in our stories is drawn from cited sources — the organization's own published reports, reputable press, or peer-reviewed research — listed at the end of each story with the date it was accessed. Where a figure is contested or hard to trace, we say so rather than quietly repeating it.
Our simulations are clearly labeled as illustrative simplifications. They are built for understanding, not as engineering or clinical models.
Where an organization's approach has credible critics, we include them. Every story carries an honest-ledger section covering real limitations. We are skeptical friends of these causes, not press officers — a puff piece helps nobody, least of all the reader deciding where to give.
About the imagery
Illustrations on this site are AI-generated in a consistent house style and are labeled as artistic interpretations, never presented as documentary photography. We do not generate depictions of real, identifiable people. Photographs, where used, are individually credited to their source.
Corrections
If we've got something wrong, we want to fix it. Factual corrections are handled promptly and noted transparently on the story. Reach us via the contact page.
